Collaborated with Microsoft Research Institute of Asia, Summer Camp for Young Scholar was held successfully

From May 25th to 27th, the Summer Camp for Microsoft Young Scholar, which is named as Bright Future for Young Scholar was held in Beijing. The summer camp was held by both Microsoft Research Institute of Asia and Yuanpei College, which attracted 50 candidates to attend, including students from Yuanpei College of PKU, Mathematics and Basic Science Class of THU, Pilot College of HIT and students from other famous domestic universities.

At the Opening Ceremony on 25th, Song Luolan, Vice President of Microsoft Research Institute of Asia, Xu Chongren, President of Yuanpei College made their speeches, welcoming outstanding students from all around the nation to Microsoft and Peking University. On the afternoon that day, there came the special part of the summer camp, the Achievement Display and the Question and Answer Section.
 
In the special part, the 50 candidates were divided into 10 groups. Firstly, they elaborated their achievements and recent research projects. Then in the interview section, the groups were acquired to finish a project design on an opening question they selected. And after two rounds of intense discussion and enough preparation, they were supposed to make a presentation on their project design. Five students from our university, including Wang Zhuo, Zhang Hao and so on, fully demonstrated their profound professionalism and bold innovative ideas, which won the thunderous applauses of the teachers and students.
 
On May 26th, the students from the camp visited the Microsoft Research Institute of Asia, observed the Exhibition of the latest results of the institute, and attended the academic reports made by both the experts of Microsoft and the students in the camp. The two reports made by Feng Bo and Zheng Mingxin, both from Yuanpei College, PKU, received favorable comment from all the teachers and students at the meeting.
 
On the last day of the summer camp, Ma Weiying, Vice President of Microsoft Research Institute of Asia, and Chen Shiy, President of College of Engineering, PKU, had a face-to-face communication meeting with the students at PKU Yingjie Overseas Exchange Center. At the meeting, Mr. Ma and Professor Chen introduced the situation of Academic frontiers and proposed their innovative ideas and insights, which greatly benefited the students.
 
The ending ceremony of the camp, which was also the award ceremony, was held briefly but grandly. Song Luolan, Vice President of Microsoft Research Institute of Asia, Zha Jing, the Seretary of Yuanpei College, Lu Xiaodong, Vice President of Yuanpei College attended the ceremony. In the end, Li Jiaqi, a student from Yuanpei College, and other two students were awarded the title of Microsoft Young Scholar.
 
In the three-day-camp, there were many communication meetings and table discussions designed by the organizers. The students got a deeper insight of the general situation of Microsoft Research Institute of Asia, and at the same time, had further communication with the alumnus from Microsoft and former Young Scholars of the camp. Through the communication and discussion, all the students in the camp got a better view of the studying opportunities in the future and the developing direction in the field.
