主题: Thank you from the Humphrey School

Hello,

As the new dean of the Hubert H. Humphrey School of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota, I’d like to introduce myself, update you on the School’s remarkable progress, and ask your help in ensuring that prospective students contemplating careers in public policy; urban and regional planning; international development; science, technology, and environmental policy; or public administration are aware of the tremendous opportunities that are available at this vibrant institution.

I arrived as dean just last month, coming directly from the position of U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Population, Refugees, and Migration, where I managed the State Department’s worldwide international humanitarian response efforts.  I join a graduate professional school with a superb capacity and commitment to public service education.

From local, state, regional, and national politics and government to foreign policy and international development challenges around the world, our faculty members, students, and alumni are making an impact on a global scale.  Students come to the Humphrey School for a variety of reasons, but all leave with an unparalleled ability to advance the common good in a diverse world.  Thank you for your past help in recommending some of these outstanding students.  Let me remind you of the School’s five master’s degrees and ask for your continued support in spreading the word:

Public Policy
The Master of Public Policy degree prepares leaders to design, manage, and advocate for better policy solutions. The field brings together political science, economics, statistics, management, and other social science disciplines to shape policies and programs at the local, national, and international levels.

Urban and Regional Planning
The Master of Urban and Regional Planning degree equips  professionals to think across fields of expertise to build better, stronger communities and make cities, neighborhoods, communities, and regions more livable and sustainable.

International Development
Our Master of Development Practice program is an interdisciplinary degree that trains the next generation of international development professionals to address issues of poverty, social justice, and sustainable development in the developing world.

Science, Technology, and Environmental Policy
The Master of Science in Science, Technology, and Environmental Policy degree enhances the technical knowledge of scientists and engineers with the policy tools to understand how science and technology shape the world and how policy and public affairs shape science and technology—particularly in relation to economic growth, health, environment, education, and national security.

Master of Public Affairs mid-career degree
The Master of Public Affairs, our mid-career degree, brings together professionals with extensive life experience who seek an alignment between their call to leadership and the skills and knowledge needed to make this a better world.

I’d be very grateful if you would share this message with your colleagues, students, alumni, employees, and anyone you know who could benefit from our degree programs.  Please feel free to contact us for more information about the Humphrey School.

Kind regards,
Eric Schwartz,
Dean of the Hubert H. Humphrey School of Public Affairs
