The Russian Building, Peking University

The Russian Building is the official administrative headquarter of Yuanpei College at Peking University. It was built in 1924 as a donation by the Russel Sage Foundation to Yenching University in commemoration of Mrs. Sage. The building is located on the east side of the North and South Pavilions, forming with the two Pavilions a harmonious arrangement in the form of a ""(--) shape. Designed by Henry Killiam Murphy, the two-story building has a hip-and-gable roof, it is decorated with brackets under the eaves, and is divided into nine bays by full-weight red pillars.

The Russian Building, formerly known as Sage Hall, or S Building for short, originally functioned as a key teaching facility for the Women’s College of Yenching University. In 1931, as part of Yenching University’s initiative to assign Chinese names to campus facilities, the building was renamed to “"Shi() Building", and following the renovation in 1952, it adopted its current name, the "Russian Building". With the official establishment of the Yuanpei Program in 2007, the Russian Building has ever since served as the main administrative office of the Yuanpei College.
