1. When freshmen are admitted, the college will group them according to the total number of students. Generally, one mentor guides 1-5 students throughout their freshman and sophomore years. Guidance can take the form of office hours, conversations, phone contact, online consultation, tea drinking , spring outing and others. Mentors should arrange interviews or group activities with students once a month to ensure good relationships and sufficient communications between teachers and students.
2. Mentors should be familiar with the basic information of their own department and related majors in terms of matters such as curricula, undergraduate research projects, academic trends and graduate destinations. After freshmen's entering the school, the college will organize orientation meetings to introduce different departments. Mentors should actively participate in it and answer questions as mentioned above. They should also assist students with course selection.
3. Mentors should undertake 1 to 2 consultation or discussion activities every semester, 2 to 3 hours each time. By participating in the consultation activities, mentors can have a deeper understanding of students' study, life and difficulties, and help to solve their problems in a timely manner.
4. Mentors will host or assist in 1 to 3 theme lectures during their term, which cover topics such as students' study, ideals, academic frontiers, social concerns and life experience.
5. According to the teaching progress, mentors should personally participate in the following basic guidance activities as much as possible: course selection guidance at the beginning and the end of the semester, discussions with students who are interested in related majors during the semester, and helping students to solve problems in study which they encountered in different periods.
6. Mentors should pay attention to students' suggestions on their work and on college teaching management. They shall then give timely feedback to the college and table proposals on improving the work.
7. Mentors should actively participate in the construction of platform courses hosted by Yuanpei College, undertake or recommend candidates for the lectures.
8. Mentors are encouraged to actively organize activities such as extracurricular visits, social practice, etc., to broaden students' horizons and help them better understand life and the world.
9. Mentors are encouraged to actively guide students on reading, fund application, academic writing, thesis review and so on.
